Disney Fairy Garden DIY (Part 1)

I have always loved fairies! Tinker Bell of course is my favorite fairy and I remember when Disney really started making Disney Fairies a thing. They came out with a great book with one of my favorite authors- Gail Carson Levine- Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg. They then came out with a sequence of books covering the adventures of the fairies introduced in the book. Now, if you look at these pictures below, you’ll see these fairies look quite different than they do now as seen in the Tinker Bell movies.

Don’t get me wrong I still love the Disney fairies, but I liked the original look more than their current one. I think it was more fairy-esque, and it felt like classic Disney art. That being said I know Disney likes to lean toward the newer animation look, but I would like to see the new fairies given a similar look as the original.

With Spring in the air, it’s time for working on the yard, planting flowers, etc. This year though I’m missing Disney a little more than usual, so I thought I would add a touch of magic to our yard with fairy gardens!

Fairy gardens became popular a few years ago. People create little areas in their gardens/yards that have tiny houses and figurines to create a fairy garden. You can find supplies at Michaels and Hobby Lobby or of course on Amazon. But I thought I would try my best to use stuff I already have at home when making my first fairy garden.

Now, don’t worry, if you don’t have a yard or anywhere outside to put this you can make a smaller version in a flowerpot and place it near a window.

This is also a great project to do for school because it gets your kids out in nature, you can have them keep a nature journal, and add other educational elements to it. As an ELA teacher I would create a fairy garden for my students and have them use it as a creative writing prompt! There are lot of options here that can make this fun and educational.

Of course, with my fairy garden I’m going to adding a touch of Disney to it! I'll be sharing more posts and photos on my fairy garden progress so make sure to subscribe and follow along here and on our instagram!
