Packing For Disney | January Edition

Updated: Jan 2, 2019

The first time I ever visited Disney during the month of January was when I moved there to participate in the Disney College Program. I prepared for the Florida weather I imagined and I was extremely wrong. I vividly remember standing on Main Street freezing in my few layers of clothes, and wishing I had brought something warmer.

Typical Florida weather in January can be anywhere in the high sixties and seventies to as low as the forties and fifties. So, think LAYERS. I would go to work in the mornings freezing, and by the time I got off, I’d be nice and warm, especially on the sunny days. One of my biggest regrets was not having a warm jacket for those first days. Now, the weather may be warmer for you than it was for me but the key is to be prepared.

Fun Events in January

There aren’t any major holidays during the month of January so, if you’re like me you won’t have to worry about packing any extra costumes (though I still make sure to Disney Bound).

You will have Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts depending on when you visit. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting on the 6th of January then head to Epcot and you might just find some characters from the classic Hunchback of Notre Dame as they celebrate Topsy Turvy Day.

January is a relatively slow month for the parks which is extremely refreshing. However, the downside to visiting the parks during “off seasons” is there will be many rides down for refurbishment. I always check this website for closures and refurbishment information before my trip.

The important thing to remember is, that no matter when you visit Walt Disney World, you can always have a magical experience.
