Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party 2018

It's Halloween time at Walt Disney World! Believe it or not Halloween started almost a month ago now there and has been in full swing ever since. Last year was our first time experiencing Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party but, as is Florida's habit, it rained the majority of our party time therefore we didn't get to see and do everything we had wanted. (Check out our full review of last years party here). So this year I was extremely excited to get another chance to experience the Not So Scary fun and I'm so excited to share it all with you.

Let's start off with my favorite treat of the night, the Maleficent Key Lime Soft Serve from Story Book Treats. I arrived at the party around 4:30 for character meet and greets and the heat was intense. I had the privilege of staying at the Contemporary Resort which is just a walk or monorail ride away to The Magic Kingdom, so by the time I walked to the party the sweat was pouring. I needed something refreshing and this treat had been number one on my list of 'must haves'. Not only did it make for a great Instagram picture but it was the perfect refresher! Make sure you grab napkins though because this evil treat will melt quickly in the Florida heat.

Now, the party didn't officially start until 7 p.m, allowing party goers to arrive at 4 p.m., and anyone who knows Disney characters, especially rare ones, their lines can be hours long in waiting. She grabbed us a spot in line to see the Seven Dwarves who only meet together for the holiday parties, and other special event, and waiting for them to come out from the mines around 6:15 was completely worth it. I have a love hate relationship with waiting in long lines at Disney. I love them because it can be fun to meet other Disney goers in line and talk with them as I did during the Seven Dwarves wait. The downside is just standing there after awhile can become a little tiresome, but light at the end of the tunnel is worth the wait. Started out seeing the Dwarves and since I was dressed as a pirate I had to go see the most fearsome pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow. Sadly, due to rain he didn't come out as scheduled, so instead I explored the park a little and enjoyed the festive Halloween atmosphere, which of course included a trip to Haunted Mansion. It's one of my favorite rides and an extremely popular one for Halloween, so instead of riding it I stayed in line for fun photos with the ghost horse, and ended up with an amazing surprise. Ghost from the mansion were roaming around the grounds and telling jokes, taking pictures and being deathly perfect. Finally, Captain Jack came out to meet and I happily joined his crew. There are so many more fun meet and greets available at Mickey's Not So Scary Party you just have to be willing to wait in lines, just remember the wait is worth the memories!

Having a plan is essential when you do Mickey's Not So Scary and this year I wanted to meet character, see the Hocus Pocus Spectacular, and the Boo to You parade. I timed it perfect because right after seeing Jack, Captain Jack, I grabbed a spot in frontier land to see the parade. Disney parades have always been a favorite of mine since I was little and Boo To You has everything that makes a Disney parade fun and unique. It had a cumulation of Disney characters all together, a catchy soundtrack, a spectacular beginning with the Headless Horseman riding by in the night, and a frightfully fun end with the queen of evil herself, Maleficent. My goal was to see both scheduled parades, because frontier land is the perfecting setting for watching the headless horseman ride and seeing the parade on Main Street would be the perfect setting for pictures. Here's the best thing about Disney, sometimes you don't have to wait hours on end for parades and shows to start to get a great spot, and that's what happened for me. I came up just minutes before both parades and had great spots. My spot on Main Street was perfect for taking pictures because I stood behind a trashcan. If you've watched my video on watching the Festival of Fantasy and Happily Ever After fireworks you know how highly I recommend finding a trashcan. Disney trashcans are great for not having to worry about being crushed by a crowd and if you're looking for a stable place for your camera it serves as a perfect stand for a tripod. The biggest change in this years parade was the switch of Peter Pan's gang and Captain Jack and Barbosa. This year Barbosa and Jack were on the ship, Tinker Belle had her own treasure trove float proceeded by Peter Pan, Wendy, the Lost Boys, and of course Captain Hook and Smee.

I loved the change because it made a lot of since to for the pirates to be on a pirate ship and Tink glowed from the gold she protected.

The best thing about a Disney vacation are the memories, and our favorite way to capture those memories are with the Photopass Photographers, especially with all the new magic shots available, especially those available during parties. The best for Halloween, in my opinion, are in front of the Haunted Mansion. The rain delayed the photographers being able to come out but that allowed for shorter lines when I was near by and I finally grabbed that lantern picture by the ride's sign. They also offer a magic shot with the Hitch Hiking Ghosts, the Evil Queen's cauldron, and Zero the ghost dog. Whenever you see a photopass photographer, get your picture, they are great ways to capture your memories, especially if you're flying solo like me.

I've saved the best for last. The Hocus Pocus Spectacular, the castle show, was my favorite part of the party. I couldn't wait to see it because castle shows are my second favorite next to parades, but this show exceeded all my expectations. I honestly can't begin to describe how amazing this was executed; the Sanderson Sisters put a spell on the crowd from start to finish. Something sorely lacking from the Disney parks is a the presence of villains, and I'm not saying I want it overrun with them, but I wouldn't say no to a Maleficent meet and greet. That's why this show is amazing, because all the characters are face characters, they are characters you rarely see in the parks, and they are all together in one big Halloween party. You can check out my favorite clips from the show on our Youtube Channel here. I highly recommend you answer Sarah's call and go see the Sanderson Sisters.
